This laptop will no longer boot. It can't be booted from Safe Mode neither can it be started with 'Last Known Good Configuration'. It just keeps recycling the start-up procedure to arrive at the same option screen which is then standard screen presented by XP when Windows has shut down unexpecrtedly.

I tried to find a recovery partition by pressing F12 (no joy); F11(no joy) and Esc (comes up with an option to boot from 1. Optical Drive; 2. Floppy Disk; 3. +Hard Disk; 4. I don't know what the '+' sign means in front of option 3: is it significant?

Hi jonas918 and welcome. The reason you cannot find support is that you are quoting an invalid Vaio Model. I suspect you are using the chassis model which is the same for all the different models in the series. Sony don't help by prominently putting the chassis model on the bottom.

Try looking on the screen surround, on the original box or in Control Panel -> Vaio Control Centre for the correct model - it will be an E-Series notebook starting VPCE*****. When you have the correct model, you can find the support pages on the support website - for example here is the support pages for the VPCEB2S1E.
